Frequently Asked Questions

Do y’all only play Christian hip-hop?

No. But it’s hard to find dope hip-hop/rap music that doesn’t glorify hyper-sexuality, drug use, drug selling, gang-banging, murder, or at least swearing. Some of our songs are more mature-themed than others, but there are lessons in it. I grew up listening to “clean versions” of rap albums, but still knew what words were being bleeped out and my young brain was still normalized to all those dark themes previously mentioned.

If a song is dope and doesn’t have negative messaging in it, we’ll play it - especially when it comes to local artists. This station is as much to give artists a platform as it is to put something sweet in your ear holes. But we want to be as family friendly as possible.

Why the port city?

I can’t lie - I wasn’t born here. I’m originally from Colorado, but Wilmington, North Carolina has been my home for over 6 years now. I’ve started a family here. And, In that time, I’ve learned a lot about the local culture as an outsider looking in. I’ve learned about the thriving local music and art scene, and the resilience of that community. I’ve learned there are a lot of good churches around here. I’ve learned there is a ton of incredible food here. And I’ve learned that people love hip-hop, but the radio stations are slim pickins.

Mostly, I’ve fallen in love with the way folks love each other here and strive to figure things out together. I see it as rich soil ripe for planting seeds of God’s truth that will, in time, grow into something bigger than we can possibly imagine right now. And, of course, the beach.

What’s the easiest way to listen?

I encourage everyone to save portcityslaps.com to the homepage on their phones. That way you don’t have to keep typing the address into google. Just tap the icon and press play on the homepage. Enjoy!

Can I request songs?

We believe much of the value in our station is in the curation. We only play songs we like, to be frank, but you’re welcome to try! Fill out the contact form or shoot us a DM on IG. Again, we lean towards Christian music and local artists get priority.

Part of the excitement in running a station like this is the constant search for new, fuego bangers. There’s always going to be music we haven’t heard yet.

Thanks y’all,
